In Production: Latino Youth & Sexuality Series
SEX AS WE'LL KNOW (Working title)

SEX AS WE'LL KNOW IT will dive into the stories of Latino/a youth peer sex educators to uncover how teaching their peers about sexuality and health has impacted and shaped their lives, not just in terms of their own sexuality and relationships, but also in terms of how this kind of leadership role is affecting their aspirations for the future.

Our film seeks to empower Latina/o youth to overcome barriers and make their voices heard by taking an active role in advocating for their sexual health needs and rights as well as help Latina/o teen parents feel a greater sense of control over their futures. The film will also seek to shift the current perspective from a deficit-based model to an asset-based model.

The goal of our film is to:

  • Empower Latino Youth with the resources and knowledge to understand their own sexuality, and with the ability to make informed decisions about sexual health, childbearing, parenting, and educational attainment.

We hope to accomplish this goal by:

  • Focusing on stories told by Latina/o youth that reflect their experiences and showing youth who are active in their schools/communities
  • Including information about sexuality, sexual health, decision-making and communication with partners, parents and friends that is youth friendly and culturally relevant
  • Including the voices of teen parents who can elucidate how they have overcome struggles and been supported in setting and meeting educational achievement goals.
